The CS is an exam that needs equal time and attention just like the rest of the USMLE steps we take. Most IMG's with English as a second langauage tend to struggle with this part of the exam.
You need to dedicate time and effort to really reading, organizing and performing your best to pass this exam. It requires a good partner preferably in the field of medicine to really work with you to practice each case and pay attention to your manners, style, pronuncitation and approach to pass this exam.
The CS consists of three componets:
1. Integrated Clinical Encounter: Consisting of data gathering (History & Physical examination) and documentation (patient notes).
2. Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Questioning skills, patient counseling skills, professionalism
3. Spoken English Proficiency: Clarity, pronunciation, and minimizing the need to repeat
yourself.
Most people tend to fail the SEP or CIS which can be difficult to pass.
Compassion is big component that has many aspects that need to be addressed during this exam.
